Each Wednesday I offer a review on either a book or a product.
Today I share a recent revelation that wasn’t all that revelatory (I think I just made that word up), as a quick google search revealed that others have already thought of this.
We are a 99% dairy free home. We haven’t consumed cow milk in years and with the exception of a rare indulgence in some from of sweet that may happen to contain dairy of some sort, we don’t drink it or eat it.
We do, however, use a lot of almond milk. We use it for cooking/baking and for hot chocolate or in coffee.
I have gone back and forth between making my own and purchasing. Price wise, I’ve concluded that there is minimal price difference, especially when I buy the almond milk in bulk from Costco. I prefer homemade because it is solely almonds and water, without any of the additions that are included in manufactured almond milk. However making my own involved more steps than:
1. remove from refrigerator
2. open cap
3. pour
And the process of straining through a nut milk bag, while not a big deal, can be a bit messy and just not worth the trouble at times.
So while I prefer homemade, I will opt for convenience about half of the time.
The other day while squeezing out another milk bag full of almond pulp I wondered, why can’t there be a better way? Just as there is a French Press for coffee, why can’t there be an almond press for making almond milk? Then I don’t have to fuss with the straining process, the contained with do the straining for me saving time and mess.
A quick google search revealed that others had this idea long before me. Why did it take me so long??
These folks are using their French Press for Almond Milk. I promptly went to Target and purchased me a Bodum French Press.
This will be a fabulous temporary solution, and would work just fine for someone who lives alone and/or consumes little Almond Milk. But with four kids in the house, we usually make Almond Milk in 8 cup batches.
So I have my eyes peeler for a larger solution, potentially a future product to bring to market.
In the meantime, I’ll enjoy my Pressed Almond Milk, thank you very much.
I hope you’ve found this Wednesday Review helpful.
